Korean Barbecue

There are a ton of great Korean dishes but the one that always impresses newcomers to this Asian cuisine is Korean Barbecue. Today, my friend and “mentor”, Mr. Seoung asked to meet my family so we made a reservation at Seol Grille restaurant in Cary to share a meal together. https://www.yelp.com/biz/seol-grille-cary-3

Mr. Seoung and I met at my former workplace (a Urology clinic) years ago when he brought in a Korean friend who spoke very little English. In Korea we have a saying, “We Are One”. What that means is that we are all family. So of course Mr. Seoung introduced the man as his brother. That confused the medical staff and I was called in to help. Once I explained that Mr. Seoung was an interpreter things were ironed out. He really appreciated my help and we have been friends since then. I call him uncle and he introduces me as his niece.

With our busy schedules and then COVID, our families never got to meet so we decided today was the day. As luck would have it, his wife could not make it but I did meet his adult daughter. His son lives in South Korea. He was very happy to meet my husband and two daughters. I brought a potted plant to present to his wife.

Believe it or not, this restaurant has an all you can eat option but I can not imagine being able to eat that much. We got a family combo for 4 and the 6 of us polished everything off and I don’t think any of us could have eaten another bite. Everything was fresh and amazing. If you have never tried Korean barbecue before, run don’t walk to the nearest restaurant. If you are in the Cary, North Carolina area, try Seol Grille!

Interesting and funny tidbit. My family name is Song. Mr. Seoung’s name is pronounced like the past tense of Song – Sung. =)K
