Spring has sprung finally and I thought I would just share the photos of the flowers around my home!
It was a heartbreaking decision, but as homeowners cutting two trees was a way to protect not just our home but the homes adjacent to our property. There is absolutely no way we could afford a catastrophe like that. So, we called a local tree service and was lucky to find a husband and wifeContinue reading “Goodbye Trees”
When you type trimming the tree the first vision in your head is the Xmas tree being decorated with lights, baubles, tinsel, etc. The second kind of trimming the tree is more dangerous and apparently very expensive. Make sense – I imagine trimming really tall trees would be dangerous. I grew up with a dadContinue reading “Trees”
I have not been this excited about Spring in YEARS. We had a chilly winter and TWO snows which is unusual for our area. I’m tired of the cold. I’m so excited I trimmed my knockout roses, raked the yard and pulled all the dead leaves off the perennial plants. The Spring Equinox, March 20Continue reading “SPRING IS NEAR!”
What is mistletoe anyway. Say that word several times. Have you noticed if you say word over and over it starts sounding odd? Missile Toe Missiletoe Missatoe. . .I am easily distracted lately. LOL Mistletoe in simple terms is a plant parasite that makes toxic berries and leaves. So why do we hold this upContinue reading “Why Do We Kiss Under The Mistletoe?”
You might remember from my gardening post in the spring that I bought 2 cabbage plants, that actually turned out to be a bunch of cabbage plants. And I planted them all. It took up 2/3rds of one of my raised beds. And then when they grew, it was obvious that I should have plantedContinue reading “I Grew Cabbage”
Short post, mostly pictures. My blueberries are getting ripe, and it’s lovely. And the grapes are loaded! We have a few pears for the first time. And a million apples. I love it.
Out of all the stuff I preserve, relish has to be one of the most tedious. Chop a ton of vegetables, salt and wait, rinse several times, and then squeeze out the excess liquid – it’s all very time consuming. And I don’t like the veggies chopped by a food processor or chopper – it’sContinue reading “Made some relish!”
We have a night thief. I love feeding birds but squirrels are pigs so we invested in a squirrel proof feeder. It worked great. They get frustrated but do not eat anything but the crumbs thrown down by the greedy Nuthatches. I have really enjoyed seeing the myriad of birds flock to our feeder. OurContinue reading “Things That Go Munch In The Night”
A tomato is something I can eat a lot of if it is homegrown, never been refrigerated and beefy. Don’t get me wrong, when it is not tomato season, I still eat grocery tomatoes. I have a preference – I’m not a snob. I tried to grow cherry tomatoes this year and they sprouted beautifullyContinue reading “Tomato!”
